44" center to center front axle

Hi,
Got an opportunity to pick up a chrome front axle. The 4" drop is fine, but the center to center of the Ford spindle bosses are 44" on center. I can get a 34" chrome spring with the axle. The exixting spring behind radius brackets are at 25" centered on the axle. From what I have learned here is I would need to buy a 26" spring, brackets, and weld the new brackets at 29" centered on the axle. Am I thinking this out correctly or does it really make a difference using a 48-50" center to center axle?

If you weld to the axle, you will ruin the chrome. It will then have to be rechromed. Seems to me it will be more cost effective to just start with a new chrome everything. That will get you a wider axle also.
