9 inch posi?

Yes. The part that makes it posi traction is what the big gear is bolted to. Look at it and if you can see 4small gears in it it is not posi. If it looks like a solid drum you may be in luck.

Should look like this on the backside of the ring gear. Ford Trac Loc12053156_1057249890953805_678314815_n.jpg

open diffs have flats for the ring gear bolts, posi have recesses compare this pic to the pic I sent earlier download.jpg Yours appears to be open.....

It's hard to get a look inside a 9" diff...just a small round hole...not a big opening like on GM diffs.
The Ford "Traction-Loc" differential had 2 side gears that the axles spline into and 4 side gears. Between the side gears is a square block that locates the cross shafts and also houses the 4 small springs that preload the clutch unit. The lesser version used just 2 side gears and I believe was called an "Equi-Loc".

Open diffs could have 2 or 4 side gears, depending on how much load the rearends were expected to see, but of course those diffs didn't have any clutch packs.

Do you have axles? If so stick them in and turn one side, have someone hold the other side. If only your side turns it's not a posi if both turn it is.
