Im cutting out my door what is the preferred gap that you would want to maintain aroung the door

I would start out with the blade width its a lot easier to remove more than put it back. I like the idea of reinforcement before the cut .

A few peices of advice form one who learned the hard way: Make sure you are doing the cutting and hinging work with the body supported by the frame it is on. I did the finish work on mine when it was on a body stand and once it was on the body (and painted of course!) the gaps were different. I had to re-work and re-paint the inside jambs of the door. Also, make sure to allow for the thickness of the primer and paint. It is thicker than you think!

Most pro builders that I know use 3/16" for a gap around doors.
