Drop in bench seats?

I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do with my interior. I know I can buy a kit from Wintec, but I'm trying to keep costs down....so....

Has anyone had any luck buying any kind of bench seat from an van or old car and getting it to fit?

I was also looking at using two aluminum seats? Or finding old helicopter or airplane seats?

Any thoughts? pics?

caravan seat Here is a link to them using a dodge caravan seat.
Here are some other possible seats.
'87-'89 Ford Escort
rear seat Seat back width = 42"
Seat bottom width = 42"
Seat back thickness = 3.5" (seat back folds forward)

'90 Dodge Caravan,
middle seat? Seat back width = 44.5"
Seat bottom width = 44.5"
Seat back thickness = 4.5"

Looking forsome old helicopter seats?

I thought I was going to get Huey crew seats from Southeast Asia era, but I was outbid at $1900.00 each. Also got outbid on Eurocopter front seats at $2100.00 each. So, I found some Pontiac buckets at $60.00 a pair.

Brett, If you do any wood working at all it will be cheap (my budget as a refernce) to make your own seat, grab so foam and vynal and a decent staple gun. Are you electrics under the seat? I made mine to pop out the bottom for access to elect. tool box & Battery. I don't have a pick to post as the body is in storage while I paint frame for final (Final 2010) build.

Come to the Sun T this weekend (Kissimmee Fl.)and see some installed is another option.

A suspension seat would reduce butt fatigue.

Any stock car bucket seats fit just fine, bolt them together with 1" x 1/8th angle on the front and back, bottom, fit perfect, all they need is the back thinned down a bit for more leg room if you have longer legs than me... mount a length of 2x4 on edge to sit the front of the seat on and lock it in place, with the angle behind the 2x4, this is also a good sitting angle, I love these seats, and just pull the back, to get under the seats... Cheap also, but real comfy... :)

Boy!! I almost really goofed, any non adjustable type bucket seat, like a pick up seat or van? was thinking about that most car seats have a big clunkin side unit to adjust the backs, that would make the seats too wide... sorry CRS here...;)

I picked up a dodge van seat(middle bench) and cut it in half, took out four inches, welded it back together, fits like a glove, and with springs it is very comfortable.

See I said it'll be great. Now if you didn't tear the foam you and do the same thing cut it in half and then remove 2 inches from both halves and then use contact cement and it'll be perfect.

Oh yeah, I still have the foam and cut it to fit and it is going to be great!
