Welcome to the Forums :)

A lot of builders use Ford 8 inch and 9 inch rear ends. I have an 8 inch in mine. I think the consensus is that the backing plates be somewhere around 54 inches apart.

Welcome to the forum Moses-T.

Welcome to the forum Moses-T. The rearend out of 71-77 Maverick is an 8 inch. It's 561/2 inches from axle flange to axle flange. It sits a little off center line because the pinon is on the right side of the housing. I have the maverick rearend in my project, it's about 1-1/2 inches off center. I dont think that it looks all that noticable. It is alot of personal preference.
