No interior wanted

I need suggestions on how to prepare an interior that will have bed liner material sprayed in it.

 

I'm not sure I understand the question . . . I used the brush-on bed liner in my interior, and there was no preparation necessary, other than cleaning out any debris that was present. If spraying, be sure to mask off any critical areas so the liner material doesn't go where you don't want it to. BTW, I will put carpet on the floor of my T-bucket, and some felt-like material on the sides. Are you planning to go with only the bed-liner? If so, then you would need to finish the interior almost like you were painting it! Smooth out as many bumps as possible etc.

 

Get the brush in kind. I had great results. No prep and it lasted until I sold her.

 

Would I have to beef up the body, say by adding more layers of fiberglass, almost like wooding it in for panels or leave it?

 

Nope. But that depends on the quality of the body. Mine was a CCR body. This the interior of Miss Behavin', my last car. Brushed in liner. Water PROOF, never chipped or flaked off. No prep. I got a can at the auto parts store, brushed it in and done.



Truth be told, I may do it again on my present build.

 

Mike, I kinda hear where you're going. I like a bare bones, no frills Hot Rod. That's the way they were. Striped done and quick. No cup holders. No top. No fenders. Quick.

 

Yes sir, no trailer queen here. My body is from Ron, but I feel it needs to be thicker but not sure how or what to use. Here in SW Florida rains at this time of year can pop up in a heartbeat. So water resistance is good!

 

Some of the glass guys will chime in, but hell man, go for it!

My body from Ron; I have added 3 layers of glass, wooded the firewall and am putting in the wood around the body for upholstery. Even if you don't want upholstery you should at least ad a few layers of glass. these bodies are really thin as are most of them .

 

True. Like I stated earlier........ Check your body. BTW... CCR, no wood needed.

 

Just how many layers are the CCR bodies?

 

My plan all along has been to use bed liner with no upholstery. My intent is to add extra layers of glass, since my body is pretty thin. Also, since mine will have doors I will be adding wooding around the door openings. My intent is to use a router to finish the exposed edges of the wooding.

I would plan on using an appropriate cleaner to remove any oil/wax on the glass surface before applying the bed liner.

 

How about an update and pics?

 

Not much to update, kinda loss interest. I will post a few soon, maybe something has changed.

 

Don't give up!! Go get some Styrofoam and put on sidewalls and rear of bucket and then fiberglass over it. It will all be smooth then by shaping the foam to the body with no sharp edges. Then you can paint or apply bed liner and it will be rigid enough to stand on it laying sideways.

I think you need the green floral type foam.

And with you in Fla. you don't have an excuse for winter down time. The only excuse you would have would be Family time.

 

In my build, after wracking my brain on how to navigate the rear curve of the body in my interior with upholstery, I finally thought, why am I worried about something that really wont be seen? So, I painted it black. No frills and a done deal. Having a door made me want some side upholstery and using stainless steel screws and buttons kinda gives my sparse interior a more "purpose inspired" look.

 

I've always said--simple is elegant-- and a lot easier to take care of.
