Here's a couple shots from my younger years.

Dirt track racing at Riverside Speedway, West Memphis, AR in the Mid 70s.

That's a model T grill shell right?

I believe that's Hooker Hood (Sprint Car hall of Fame) in the B9.

Sure, they're "Non- T" pics today but this is where I grew up. This is where I became a motorhead. This is what made me want a T Bucket.

That's my dad in the F-F-F-Ford Boss powered Sprint Car. 1975. Almost every piece hand made. You couldn't buy Injection for Ford engines, or headers, or anything else it seemed.

Great pics T-oDD! This is a world all of it's own. I think that's a '29 shell. Dig the 5 spoke wheels on that one. Very cool!

Awesome pix, THANKS!!!!

brings back childhood memories for me too.
my brother-in-law used to race those type cars back in the 70's, I believe they used to call them "Super Modified's", fast as stink:eek:
thats what started my addiction also:D

I have a few more.

We called them "B cars" back then. Riverside had classes C Cars (watched a bunch of 1st gen Camaros and Tri Five Chevies get torn up), B Cars (Super Modifieds in the Mid West - Speedway still sells that fiberglass also!), A class (sprint cars).

Out there in cyberpace I have an old website loaded with Sprint Car pics from way back then. Lots of old Rick Ferkel pics. He was fun to watch, lap the entire field a couple of times in a 25 lap feature. Incredible!

He'd finish a race, get the checkered flag and the rest of the field was still racing under the green LOL.

We saw one of those like the one your Dad is sittin' in at a swap last fall. $3000 for the car and trailer. had us goin' for a while. There's a pretty active bunch of vintage dirt car and drivers up here. It's fun to go just to see them run. Acouple of the older driver can hardly walk to their cars, but once they get there, they're 10 feet tall and bullitproof.

Ron

P.S.-There's a great thread on the HAMB on vintage race cars. The last time I looked at it there were like 800 posts!

That is sooo cool T-Odd. I buddy of mine here in Beaufort, SC used to race sprint cars at W. Memphis about that time when he was stationed at NAS Millington. He was instructor for Marine Air Comm Electric. His name is Allen L. "Pat" Patterson. He's a retired MSgt. I'll have to see what team he drove for. He drove the third of three cars in the stable.

Reminds me of some of the cars and pics in that museum Speedy Bill has in NE. That tour during the Omaha Nats was cool! Had a chance to visit with Bill a bit. Man he was full of dirt tracker baloney! We got to talking about Devil's Bowl and his eyes lit up with glee about all the Texas money he brought home.

Jan Opperman, one of the original Outlaws. If you ever get a chance to read up on him, do it. He showed those USAC driver how it's done.

Phtoman, that was probably my favorite part in that Museum. That place was AWESOME.
