th 350 dip stick

I have a leak in my th 350 so I dropped the pan.
In looking around I see the dip stick tube inside the trans about 2 " and cant see or feel the dip stick.
Should the fluid level be above the pan mating flange or below it.

The fluid level should be below the pan mating flange.

The dip stick must be wrong, get a tube and dipstick from another 350 or at least compare the two to determine the differences. Better yet, just buy a new Lokar or similar.
