Yesterday we started our 13th T season w/a nice 60 mile ride ..beautiful day..... After much thought , discussion , procrastination, etc. I pulled the heads over the winter , I'd had trouble w/this engine using oil...all the tests pointed to valve guides but since these were brand new brodix heads I couldn't bring myself to believe the guides were bad....well guess what , after only a few thousand miles I found 4 intake guides completely roached...rattily loose...so after having the offending guides replaced & honed , my freind & I touched up the valves & ,with fingers crossed , put it back together..... so far so good , the plugs look clean & we din't use any oil.... last year 60 miles would have meant a 1/4 of a quart.... what I still have a hard time understanding is why only 4 guides & why was it not fouling plugs ?!?!

Were they all the same head? Were the heads i.d. no. sequential? Both heads have the same deck to rocker height? Hydraulic or solids? Rocker geometry the same for both sides? Was the block decked equally on both sides? If shaft roller rockers, were the pads machined the same?
Not fouling plugs, MSD ignition set up?

By sequential I mean of the same casting batch (001, 002, 003, etc.). The heads should have serial numbers. Also, if you put the heads side by side, were the defective guides in the same place? Just looking for a commonality.
Probably just a machining error or fitment error at the "factory" and now that you have caught it and corrected it all will be well.
By rocker height I mean, basically, did you have rocker adjustment that was noticeably different from the other valves?
What type of rockers do you have?
High energy ignitions usually cover a lot of sins.

Enjoy the summer.
