Antique Hood question

I need to know when it is okay to cut up an antique. My dad had a 50-something Ford truck he disassembled before I was born and the parts to it are out in some trees in a field. (Dad died 9 years ago.) I went out there yesterday to get the hood. I'm needing a pointy hood for my project and thought it might be right. Well the parts are in standing water, but my wife spotted a hood 40 feet from those parts. Yea, the hood wasn't near the rest of the truck. So we dragged that hood out and away we went.

Yesterday as I unloaded the hood, I was bothered by it, it didn't look right. "That can't be a 50-? Ford hood." So today, after about a 30 minute internet picture search, I now know I have a 51-52 Buick hood that is missing its ornaments. The hood I was going for is still out in the field.

So should I sell the hood or use it? It's too long so chopping would be needed, but I hate cutting up something that somebody else may need as is. Plus, I wanted to use body parts that there are reproduction parts available. This Buick hood is not readily available as a reproduction.

I don't think there are any other buick parts out there and I have no idea who had the Buick in the first place. As far as I knew my family drove Ford, so it is a surprise to have a piece of a Buick.

I'd look into selling it off before I started cutting it up. With the prices some stuff is going for on Ebay it may be worth a lot more then you think.

The hood by itself is available on ebay for $99 and an additional $150 to ship. The hood with ornaments can be had for $400. Ebay had only 2 and mine is missing the ornaments. How hard is it to ship something that large and somewhat heavy? It would require freight shipping, and I know nothing about shipping beyond small cardboard box shipping.

For what its worth, a seller on ebay is asking $400 for a Ford truck hood like I am certain is still out in the field.

jbisme,
The struggles of a true hot rodder. I would guess there are more old Ford hoods out there than Buicks. If someone needs the hood they will make arrangements to get it.
I have some old cars, I cannot scrap, because there may be a part on one somebody needs. If I junk it, it is gone forever.
