Thats odd. Kinda sprint car ish. Interesting way to gear the steering. Quick change gears?
Need more pics, please. Maybe even a naked frame shot or two.

I just got this thing on Saturday from a dealer in Miami so I don't have bare frame pictures, no info and no quick change rear :( I wish

I was referring to the way the steering gear ratio was changed by the gearing (the two gears). And then I asked if they were off a quick change rear end.
If your just gonna turn it no need. BUT if you want to make it a safe runner then I'd get some buds together and pull the body, just to see what you have.
Then you can take pics, nekkid or otherwise.

It's an unusual piece. Lots of thought. You gots to show us.

John, I got it , I don't know were those gears came from ! same size both. No need to pull the body the frame is at the open, the floor is made with aluminum plating something similar to Factory Five racing ,no fiberglass under it just tubing. I don't have more photos to post, car still at the dealership. I will pick up coming week end .

Thank you for the replay

That front end looks scary to me. The top radius rod mount is working on the bracket in the thickness dimension. The axle looks like it had parallel springs so the cross spring is rigged to go there. Hope it was cheap! Looks like a lot of re-do before it is safe.

It does not have any brakes on the front from what I can see from the pictures. I would highly suggest that you look into correcting that for your safety and that of others.

Jim

I agree 100% ,the front end is not safe !
I got the car for the price of a basic kit.
It runs good and the frame is nice but I need suggestions for the front end,the rest is cosmetics a lot of chrome.

Last time I will say it. Pull the body and see what you have. You don't even know what the gears on the steering assembly do.

John

And you paid how much for the car ?

John I appreciate your reply. I want you to know that I have no concern about the two gears that mesh to transfer energy between the two shafts
One connected to the steering gearbox, it is very simple and nothing to it. (Maybe the builder in his mind wanted to eliminate bump steer ).
This Hot rod community is small and perhaps someone knows the builder , the fomer owner or the car's history .I will love to find out.
I paid $6000 for the car and it needs work . I'm re building a 1952 flatty at this moment so I was looking for a solid platform but.... I ended up with two projects instead of one!:speechless:

Looks like the steering box worked opposite to what the builder needed, so by adding the 2 gears, it reverses the input to the box. Turning the steering wheel to the left turns the input shaft to the right.

Nobody picked up on the fact that the gears are of different size and effect the the final gear effort to turn the steering box ? You might liken the gear set up to a steering "quickner" that would be found in a lower class stock car. That is why I think they are quick change gears that allow the driver to change steering ratios as needed. They are made to interchange without having to change gear spacing. As I said there is more to this car than meets the eye.

Course, you will need to pull the body to put a new master cylinder set up for front brakes, right ???

John

John you have me searching today !!! The gears appear to be made by Winters Performance !!!! Sooo YES maybe the only reason to have this set up is to change steering ratios! but why on a T bucket ?? Is not like You going to race this thing at Deals Gap. Whatever the reason ... At least I know now were to find those gears if needed!!
If you look at the fifth picture you will be able to see the master cylinder and the removable floor plate. I might remove the body to redo the wiring and so on . I have to bring the car home this weekend and I will decide then.
