Just read in the HAMB that Barry Grant (AKA known as Demon Carbs) has officially closed it's doors due to the down turn in the economy. I thought that the economy was getting better. Going over to their web site to see if they have anything to say.

Official statement:

From Barry Grant
As of today, February 18, 2011 we are ceasing operations at our Dahlonega location and all subsidiary locations. Working with all of you has been the experience of a lifetime. I will value your support as friends, customers, vendors, and media contacts forever. The economic situation has put the company in the position of not being able to find working capital needed to continue operations and get a chapter 11 reorganization plan through the court. In addition to this, is that all of our equipment has been breaking down causing production delays and further hurting cash flow. Reluctantly now we must convert to chapter 7 liquidation after 26 years of business. The financial collapse has closed, or has caused severe restructuring of many companies in our industry. Many individuals have lost everything. We have even lost our home. This is the most humbling experience of my life, and I have no future plans at this point. Thank You for Your Many Years of Support.

That disaster has been waiting to happen for several years. At my old place of employment, we were a BGFS distributor. And for the last 18-20 months I was there, sourcing product from Grant was impossible.

I respect people that try to bring new and creative products to market, but Grant was pretty cavalier about it all. His three deuce manifold/carb combos sold for an overwhelming amount of money. Who could afford to buy the set-up? He had a fairly decent oval-track 750 CFM gasoline carb, but his drag stuff was always lame, compared to anything else. Late last Spring, I had a customer who felt he just had to have a Grant Street Demon. I called them and of course, they didn't have any on hand. When I asked how long it would take to do one up, they told me they didn't even have components. How do you sell carburetors when you don't have the components to build them? I tried to find another distributor that had one on hand and they all said the same thing - "been on back-order for months".

Carbs are rapidly becoming fossils, so it's not exactly what you could call a growing market. The only reason the carb companies sell any carbs at all is because the sanctioning bodies can't sort how to pull a finger out and get stuck in with EFI. And their excuse that it would drive the cost of Pro Stock out of range is a real hoot.

Nascar Sprint Cup cars are going to EFI next year. I don't think it will be too long and they'll all be making the switch.

Owww
I like EFI

Glad to see BG go down they deserved it. Everything I have seen from them was junk.
I'm certainly not going to disagree with you.

They would purchase Carter fuel pumps and tap the lower bodies out to accept either a -8 or -10 inlet and outlet fittings. One would think the proper way to do this would be to disassemble the pump, tap the ports, wash the lower section and re-assemble everything. Not those guys, they would just run the tap through the ports and put the pump in their box, ready to ship. I hate to guess how many of their pumps I've pulled apart, to clean the metal out of them.
