Bummed, but Happy

Well, All good things come to an end. The football team I work with entered the final game of the season tied with our next opponant. The winner would take the conference and go on to play next week. You can read about it here if you like,

Carleton College: Varsity Athletics: Schedule and Results: Football hosts Saint John's

It was a great turn around season with many milestones. From 3-7 last year to 7-3, I'm proud of what they have done and can't be bummed to much in todays loss.

At the banquet after the game the players recognized me for all my work. Came real close to losing it. I'll miss the seniors and look forward to camp next August.

Well, time to get back in the shop and build.

So often the word "hero" is tossed around. To the point that it becomes redundant. Then, you get the chance to hear of a REAL hero. To me a hero is someone who goes beyond his normal call. The cop who becomes a fireman, the mom who becomes the bread winner, the nurse who stops a robber, the corpman who picks up a rifle and then there is someone who steps up and gives time to the next generation. Time that he could be thinking about himself. He gives it not for a reward, but because he knows he is doing what's right.

Bummed? The score on the board is nothing. You and those kids shared an experience. Nothing can take that away.

Hero.

When reading Fred's post you cannot help but realize his wisdom. I think he need's to be our next President.

Fred you are one fart smeller... I MEAN SMART FELLER.

HERO tag applies here.

I sure hope you guys are refering to the players. They are the best, they were never cocky or arrogant and believed in each other and the coaches. My role was to keep them in good equipment and clean the locker room and stadium after practices and games.
