Carb Ideas ,good or bad is the question

So i was at the local farmers market and i found a set of Webber side draft carbs just sitting there. i asked the guy about em and he sold em to me for 160$ they are in great shape just needed a bit of elbow grease to get em looking like new .......

So now my issue ...since i bought these carbs i want to use them on my bucket since all i have now is a holly 4bbl i thought these would look better and more unique.

now how do i set them up so that they are not like the other side drafts out there. here is my ideas . my FAB guy said he builds intakes for these all the time for bikes and would not be an issue for my engine. and we can get a certain degree of tilt out of them if need be for clearance without messing with function . intakemockup.JPG

FEEDBACK ?

mock up is the 2 carbs on a SBC duel quad intake. just for reference ,but if anyone else has a better idea for an intake base let me know
thank you guys!

Building speciality intakes is my bread and butter, though I've been getting more into other areas the past few years. The sidedraft to downdraft idea has been done and is very successful. However, on you sketches the twin webers on the 2X4 manifold would do, if you can bend the tubing or fab up a dropbox. I like the ideas, and you could get a hi-ram effect by raising them to 8" above the carb mounting surfaces.
The carbs would operate better with the airhornes or filters pointing toward the sides of the motor (#3), due to float chamber location.

One thing that would simplify things for you and your mounting would be to use a crossram manifold. Make a blank top, and your mounting is not limited as to where the carb mounts, therefore, you won't be at the mercy of trying to make sharp bends with tubing. For the really tight bends, I always fab. square or rectangle runners, but thats me.
With the crossram manifold, you can aim your carbs directly at the bank you want to feed, and those things do, once adjusted, give almost instantaneous throttle response.

Heres some inspiration for you, theres no reason why you can't use just the 2 carbs....

Personally, I'd do a twin log, ie, DSC00693.jpg, would look diff. give good performance and have a touch of 'old school', not to mention, allow for easy mounting. Just bring the logs a little closer, and a little higher....

Or.....look at page 26 and 27 in the Offy catalog....

Thank you for all the input S,metal !!! i was thinking about the duel log idea alot . i saw a guy in Germany that has his v12 32 ford on a custom log set up and i thought it looks great ! just more alot more fab work to have done. just want my bucket to be more out of the norm ....kinda like me lol . but i dont want to over do it .

ill do some mock up doodles of a log set up and post it to see if you think it will work .....or if its a dud lol thank you again

Its hard for a log setup not to work....hotrodders been using them since the 40's with great success. I can knock out a set in a afternoon, but I'm setup for intakes, blowers and turbos.
Theres no reason why a person can't build a set of logs in a weekends time, if he's got the tools. A new set of intake gaskets, a little 1/4 flatbar for the intake faces and carb mounts, the rest is pipe or tubing. You can make it outta steel....a drill, 4 1/2" grinder, a mig, a sabre saw or plasma for the faces, etc....you get the idea....

Dearie me, did you see the price on that piece?!? That will certainly get the ol' ticker moving on an early morning. <pant, gasp, pant>

That one's clearly been cast from unobtanium.

I'm still laughing on that one! Hahaha.... Yea, you could make a little box, just enough to bolt the carbs to, and mount it on a single 4 manifold. All of about $80 at most, hardware and welding included....
I realize the dollar has devalued, but dam...

yikes! lol. ......ya i seen the single quad intake set up but it looks clunky to me thats y i was thinking about the duel quad.........speedway has a bolt on set up for a tri power ...it bolts up to a single quad intake and if i blocked off the center opening and used that gap to fit in my fuel log and stuff ...that might work in place of buying a new duel Q intake . and i have to keep in mind that pats are expensive but shipping is more lol . this weekend ill try and do a mock up and post pix :)

What Screamin' said. We have always had Webers down here because of the preponderance of European machinery. The Side Drafts like these are designed to mount longitudinally, you will have float bowl slosh type grief if you mount them east/west. Because you can change choke and draft tubes you can virtually dial in any CFM for an individual carb. You could put all four on on a cross ram, not uncommon here, choke 'em down to match the CFM you want, gold or dark blue anodise the alloy bodies and JUST LOOK SO COOL.
