Whats a good carpet adhesive?
Something I can pickup at a local hardware or autoparts store.

What have you guys used?
Spray or role/brush on?

I was thinking of getting Permatex Body Shop® Heavy-Duty Headliner and Carpet Adhesive. It's a spray on.
Sold at most autopart stores.

That should work fine. I have mine held in with a few quarter sized drops of hot melt glue. I would think almost anything would work unless someone needs their carpet to be structural. ;)

I hate when carpet is glued down. What happens when you get soaked in a rain storm or when you have to gain access to the body bolts?

I bought really good auto carpet. So if it gets wet I should be able to clean and vac. it. I was thinking I'd use chrome bolts and put them on the out side of the carpet. It's only 2 that would show.

I have my carpet secured with heavy duty Velcro. I agree there is going to be a time when you need to pull the carpet up,like when I needed to get to the body bolts to lift the body a bit to remove my tranny.

I glued the trans hump carpet/pad down.

After that the front padding on the passenger side was stapled to the floor. The carpet I left free, its held down by the seat, shifter box and the door panels.

Makes it easy to take out if you really need to, and stays in place. Plus you can pull the front drivers side back if you need to get to the master cylinder.

At the start I did not have the padding, but after a few short trips my heal dug into the carpet, so the padding really helped that.

3M makes a very good automotive carpet adhesive, available at most autoparts stores. Let it get tacky and stick the carpet right down. If it's a high quality, automotive carpet, with a semi hard poly backing, you can heat it with a heat gun, and mold it to the body. Then the velcro idea would be perfect.

Any one use sound deading under their carpet?

I used this stuff under my carpet.
Automotive Heat, Sound and Noise Insulation

I wanted something to cut out road noise coming from the floor.
I know it's a T. and noise is something I have to live with.
But, I figued if I cut out some of the noise why not. Plus it makes the floor feel nice and the stuff was cheap too.

I use indoor/outdoor carpet purchased at Lowe's. It is cheap, reasonably durable, and easy to cut. It doesn't hurt it if it gets wet. Like some of you, I use hot glue to secure it directly to the plywood floor. It stays in place very well. I tried velcro but that type of carpeting is thin - you could see the small bumps it made and the velcro didn't stick well to the floor or carpet. I don't have any sound deadening or padding under the carpet. When it needs to be replaced or removed for some modification, I use a heat gun and it pulls right up. I know it doesn't look as good as automotive carpet but I prefer cheap and easy whenever I can.
