Hey Guys,
I was wondering if a few of you wouldn't mind posting some pictures of the Corvair steering box mounted in your T's for the traditional steering set up. I was also wondering how many different ways there may be to mount them. I just received mine yesterday and trying to think this through and what would be the best options offering the best results. I looked the site over last night until my eyes were about to bleed and thought it might just be as easy to ask.

Generally they are mounted on top of the frame right in front of the firewall.

What I'm wondering is approximately how high should the input shaft be, how far towards the inside of the frame should the box be and at what angle? If I just put the box on the frame the input shaft will be only an inch or less off the edge of the firewall & cowl. It also look like the input shaft extends just inside the firewall. I see a shim is being used to lift the box even higher with this mount at the front mounting hole. Looking at the picture it also looks like the pitman arm has made contact with the cowl? Thank you for the picture as this is getting me headed in the right direction.
 
Jim, I have one on mine. Mine is farther from the firewall. It is 2" from the mount to the firewall. It also hangs about 1/2 way over the outside of the frame rail. I will see if I can get a pic later. It came that way when I bought my T. It works very well and I get no shimmy or bounce even with without shocks. I have spoked wheels with no brakes so I don't have alot of weight on the front end.

The mounting bracket that CCR shows in thier plan kit is a good one, if you follow that thier pattern the angles[side to side& front to back ] are "right on" !! The old TP mount puts the box below the frame & the pitman arm too close to close to the ground I.M.H.O. I have not looked at how Spirit mounts thier's, but I'm sure someone has a picture.

You just have to mount that at an angle that works for you. That is a straight steering coupler you are seeing going thru the firewall. The shim was used after everything was painted and we decided to move the shaft up in the dash (fat belly). The pitman arm does not hit the cowl, that was done putting the body on the frame.
 
I've got my master cylinders mounted along with the brake peddle and now it's time to get serious with the steering box. I've looked the picture over several times and the best I can come up with is the steering mount leaning inboard. From the picture it looks as if your mount is parallel with the frame. Approximately how high is the firewall side of the mount supposed to be from the frame?
 
Here is my Corvair box with a very reasonable 45* column angle. I don't care for the "bus wheel". Note the bracket is angled from the frame and the Pittman arm is re-splined to hang vertically. It works great!steering box.jpg
 
The TP is indeed mounted under the floor. It looks nicer because it is out of site. Downside is the steering column goes thru the floor right where you pedals are. Makes for a tight area especially when you need to work on it.

RPM has the box mount brkts. Pretty easy to get & mount, this is certainly a no hassle way to do it!
