Yep, been there, done that. It let them know it was gonna come apart! Look at the exhaust pipe from the turbo.......once it balloned like that, they should've backed off.......poor dyno guy or he doesn't have experience with diesels...........They were pouring the boost to it, you could hear it whistling and once all that boost hit, the head came off. I'm impressed though, they were putting out some power! Till it went boom!
I used to work at Jacobs Truck Brake, The company that makes the "Jake Brake" and we did the same thing to many large diesels. They would mount a new brake on an engine and cycle them on and off until something broke. Most of the time they just started running poorly, or just stopped running completely. But every now and then, if the planets and stars would line up properly, we could get a big bang. Man that was a lot of fun....
Back when I worked at the diesel shop we helped a guy with a big John Deere super stock pull tractor. It had 3 turbo chargers on it and made 180 lbs of boost.
