Starting issues

I just bought my 27 roadster a few few weeks ago. It’s only started one time since I got it home. It’s a spirit industries build with a SBC , automatic and 3K miles since built.

I’ve been trying to figure out the problem. When I tun the key, the electric fan turns on. When I turn the key to start, the fan speed drops down to slower rpms but there is no click or engaging of the starter. When I tested the s terminal by turning the key to start, the voltmeter doesn’t register power.

I replaced the battery first -it was bad but still have the same issue
I replaced the ignition switch today- still no click or engagement.

I can jump across the battery lead and s terminal with a screwdriver and the starter will engage. Just can’t get it working by the key switch.

Anyone have any ideas, I’m getting frustrated that I can’t drive it yet.

Try moving your shift lever while holding the key in the start position. There should be a neutral safety switch on your shifter that prevents the car from starting in gear. It may have just slipped a bit and is out of adjustment.
