Drill Doctor

Has anyone used drill doctor and are they worth the money. Thanks in advance for your input.

I've used one. The place I used to work had the model that would do 110 degree bits and 135 degree split point bits. I didn't like it. The machine had a tendency to round over the tip. It was probably my technique more than the machine. For no more drilling than I do I wouldn't buy one for myself. It's cheaper to use Mystic Metal Mover on the bits (Alumicut for drilling aluminum) and buy new bits when I need them. (I used to work at a trailer manufacturing company. One of the guys on the line would drill 50 to 75 3/8" holes a day with a hand drill in the trailer goosenecks for huck bolts. Using the Mystic Metal Mover he could make a bit last at least four days.)

I have a Drill Doctor and I really like it. It does a great job.

I use mine all the time, when I built the new 5000 sq ft by 16 ft hi wall shop I kept the iron workers supplied with sharp bits, they reeally liked the resharpened bits and they got the job done faster. It is similar to the commercial model we used in the auto factories. the little fingers can get out of place if someone takes it apart that doesn't know what they are doing, easy to fix.. for bits over 1/2 I use a general that you have to adjust for different sizes and it only does one side at a time. I sometimes hit the tail on a belt sander to make a more agressive cut.

One of these days I'll take mine out of the box and let you know.

We are on our third one. Students can destroy a anvil in a sand box. We use it almost daily.

Students sometime have trouble indexing bit. I would highly recommend.

I've had one for about 6 years and love it. It's very easy, no more trying to drill a hole with a dull bit.

I have never used one allways sharpened by hand but after a guy used my drill press and drills I may have to get one

I have one and use it regularly. Can't remember the last time I had to buy a new bit due to poor cutting action. Mine came with a DVD on how to use it properly... definitely worth a watch or two.

The "Doctor" is in!

I like mine. I will spend about 15 minutes once a month or so, and all the bits I use will be good to go for another month.

They are easy to use once you get the hang of it. Keep a couple "I don't care about them" bits around to practice getting the bit set correctly.

THANK YOU for your input I am going to get me one. I have access to a bunch of used drills and I would like to recycle them.

I'm going to get mine out of the box and give it a try. You know how some of those "as seen on TV" items are. My abs aren't flat and no cooking devise has save me time and hassle. Okay, I take that back, the NuWave Oven does do bacon exactly the way I like it, but there is no way I'm putting a turkey in it.;)

I bought one. Love it...
My brother can sharpen any drill with it.
I cannot sharpen any drill with it!
I'm just not talented I guess. ;)
Recommend? Yup.

ain't no one gonna take mine away from me .. nope .. just ain't gonna happen!!!!!

Ron

So Harbor Freight drills and a Drill Dr. will keep me in sharp drill bits...

Harbor Freight's sawzall blades are crap, so I figured the drills would be too.
