ENOUGH AIR

This question is bugging me for a while sice our buckets are very light do we have to keep the air pressure lower...................... personnaly i run skinnys and a pair of cheaters keep them around 30 psi................ any suggestions.

Just taking a stab at this. I believe the pressure should be set at the level where the tire has the proper footprint. With a given tire, light weight cars require less pessure than a heavier car.

From a mathematic point of view, let's say a 3000 lb car with 50/50 weight distribution requires 30 psi for proper tire footprint. The total footprint is 3000 / 30 = 100 sq. inches. Since each tire supports 25% of the total weight, each footprint is 25 sq. inches. To get that with a 2000 lb car will require 20 psi. 2000 lb / 100 sq. inches = 20 psi or there abouts. This is not exact but should be pretty close.

165 fronts with 18 to 20 PSI and 31" Hoosiers 10 PSI rear.

Summer is long gone today its 47 foggy and no sun. But you know how crazy are T lovers. So This morning i corrected my toe to 1/8 drop off the tire air pressure to 17# and decided to retorque my friction shocks. Oops my nylock nuts were not tightened properly........yep they kind loosen up themselves with the arms travelling. Ha. Ha made a little nylon shimto put behind them and voila.

Ok, test drive 1-2-3-4-5 and up 80 on the higway and for the first time y was ahead of the traffic what a victory except for the runny nose s..............t its cold today. I noticed a small harmonic vibration around 50 but dispearing as soon speed goes up. Man that i ham happy today.

Guys should have met you before, its like a therapy . I was trying to solve all the problems myself for the last 7 years on that project. Thank you so much everyone.:hooray:

If no rain will try tommorow, plus a little change in toe.

Jack, thanks for the update, glad things are better, and don,t feel bad about time took me about 5 years to get my front end right

I have found the quickest way to get close on tire pressure is to wet the tires and roll the vehicle on to a dry smooth area, preferably concrete, and read the pattern. If the outside treads are less defined than the center treads the tire has too much air pressure. If the center is less defined too little air pressure. This will get you close, but it is not the final judgment. That should be based on tire heat after a sufficient drive to bring the tires up to operating temperature based on the way you drive. The heat should be even across the tire tread.

Tire temperature will also tell you if your toe and camber settings are correct for your driving style. If one side of the tire is the hottest and it gets progressively cooler across the tire you have a camber problem. If both outer treads or both inner treads are hotter and the rest of the tread is the same temperature you have a toe problem. The outer tread heat indicates too much toe in, inner tread heat, too much toe out.
