Exjunk fiberglass question

or For anyone for that matter I need ideas
I have a question about your top rail on your bucket . I am not much on body work and know even less about glassing but my question is when you glassed the rail did you carry the glass all the way over the top rail or just up to it . I looked at your web sight but didnt get a clear idea of what you did . I really like how the upholstery is under the rail
Thanks

What we did was a first time thing for my son and I. We made the body with the body side "rolling" over to the horizontal position. After the body was out of the mold and cured, we mixed up a two part foam and applied it to the inside of the body and let it cure. We then ground down the foam to the desired shape and glassed it over and finished it off.

What we ended up with is much like a boat with two sides that are foam filled. It makes for a very strong body where wood is not needed. As a matter of fact, there is absolutely no wood in my body. (No comments please! LOL) Even the floor of my body is all glass. There is some steel reinforcement in the lower dash and steel plates in the body mount places that are glassed in for strength.

I hope that I have answered your question well enough and have given you some insight in how to do it yourself. If it was not for my son, Rob, I would not have known how to do it myself.

Thanks for the answer I was wondering how you did it .

No, but I'll check with my son tomorrow.

Ex, do you remember the name of the foam you used?

The product that we used was A-B Foam from Reynolds Advance Materials. You can Google them for a dealer near you.

I checked it out online. Did you have to lay the body over to pour the foam on, or can you brush it on a vertical surface and have it stick without running down?

Definitely lay the body on its side, then pour the mixture onto the side and smooth it out. Be careful because it expands like crazy.
