F150 driveline

Good morning guys,
Can you use the driveline from a 1992 Ford F150 4 wheel drive? I woild like to use the motor,
overdirve tranny and maybe the rearend. The truck was givin to me. It only has 88k on it and
it was driven by one of my coworkers, an older gentleman, who bought it brand new!
Let me know what you think.

Thanks, Mark

You can use the 302 engine and the AOD tranny with no problem. That's what I'm using; from a 92 F150. As for the rear axle, the width might be too wide. Ford Explorer rear axles are the right width. The F150 might be wider. Others will chime in about the axle.

I have no idea. That was what my friend told me. I just want to clean it up, change the fuel inj over to carb and paint it. No chrome, just nice and simple! something for me and my 15 year old boy to do together. When he turns 16 we can ride together! my TP bucket is almost done, hope to have it on the road by June or July!

I'm still learning. That is why I come to this site, if you ask a question, it will be answered with no judging, as long is it is safe!

Thanks for all the imput you guys are giving.

The F150 axle is definatly too wide. Ford Explorer and Ranger are the same. All Explorers use the 8.8 while a ranger can have an 8.8 or a 7.5 depending on the year and motor. I used a 7.5 out of a ranger 0n my build and it worked great.

The transfer case is mounted to the transmission tail shaft housing, so it would have to be changed, and yes the rear end would be very wide for a bucket. I used the engine and tranny from a 86 F150 5.0/302 with a C6 in my first bucket and did the same that you want to do, pulled off the fuel injection (sinfuly ugly) with a carb and an HEI dizzy. Ran like a bear!

MAYBE THIS MIGHT BE OF A LITTLE HELP TO SOME OF YA'LL....if ya'll can use it....

I know alot of guys here set up theirs to run either S-10's or Ranger rears. Me, I'm running a Ford 9", so I can throw the center chunk up on the table and set it up. My back and knees are shot....
