Front Spindle Swap

Hey folks,

I have a Speedway kit with the front spindle and 'cycle tires. Has anyone done a swap to a bolt pattern for wider tires. Is there a ready made kit? Any help is appreciated!

I have same thing and do not like the handling on acceleration. Have looked at kits and if you have those 37-41 ford spindles I see conversion kits 200-300, then you need new brake lines and wheels and tires. I am thinking about doing this also to see how it handles then.

Sorry to take so long getting back. Been at the coast! I am looking at the same kit and I have the same problem under acceleration. Will likely wait until the winter to pull it apart. Let me know how it works out and any sticky points you find!

Is that typical of all motorcyle tires or is this something that could be fixed with a different wheel tire combination but still spindle mount?

IMO, too little rubber on the road. I have not seen any other spindle mounts that would add any width.

You just are having other handling problems, as the tire will work fine, I ran them for years myself, and still have spindle mount front 12 spoke wheels... Just how is the car being evil???
In my case, it's fine in a straight line. I would prefer more grip (front end pushes) when cornering. I still love the look of the cycle tire and will likley leave it alone.

Btw, my push might be due to the 427 Chevy between those skinny tires:)

The wire spokes are simply too light for the 427 motor you have in the Roadster. Go to a set of 12 spokes!! I've ran both, 12 spokes are way better! Why take a chance? Also, easier to balance.
This Forum will hardly ever hear from me, unless I feel strongly that there is a safety issue involved, and I'm no Newbie when it comes to Hotrods. Bob Nunes

Sounds like a steering problem, do you have a posi rear end? that has a tendency to push in a straight line on small tires in turns, plus cornering with small wire wheels, will in time make them come apart, plus if the tires are strictly made for bikes, they do not have the sidewall strength that is needed with cars... They are great to look at, but not so great for hard driving on the street corners... :)

Thanks for the additional input guys. I do not have a posi rear, but I hear ya on the looks vs. function. I'll keep posting updates as we move forward this winter!

When cornering your tires will be totally out of control, because you have the tie rod out front, no Ackerman, will anybody ever learn, without Ackerman and only a few special built steerings will allow for enough adjustment to get the Ackerman close to right, and still the tie rod SHOULD be in the rear to be totally correct... Drive in a straight line only... :)
