Front tire sizes

I figure on 165r15 wide whitewall tires for the front and I'll likely buy those when my project is nearing completion. I picked up a pair of 6" steel rims that fit my '56 F-100 hubs. For mockup, I'm just looking for a pair of el-cheapo retreads or used with similar dimensions....hard to find old 165s lying around. Any popular tire sizes come to mind?

Depending on what look you are after a 165 is actually a big tire on a T bucket. I had 5.0 ?? (145 equiv) bias tires on my bucket and they looked a lot nicer then the 165 radials. They are a little shorter and skinnier but to ME the smaller tire looked nicer. It is a matter of choice though.

Unfortunately the only pics I have aren't at a good angle to see the difference. The ride was a little smoother with the radials but the steering wasn't really any difference and that is all I was hoping for.

Here is the 165 radial.

Here is with the smaller bias tires.

I'm doing a nostalgic rod so I really don't mind the 165 dimensions. What I really need is something that will fit those 15x6 rims. Narrower tires may not work on them.

The 125, 135, 145x15 skins would seem tough to find.

I run 165's, anything smaller looks funny on a 6" rim.

I got 165R-15 on mine. The wheels are 15x4 ET-X spokes. Yes I think 6" is too wide for that size tire.

What size tires are you running on the back ?

I run 165s on the front of my bucket and on my VW - Check out the VW dudes - they KNOW where to find that size tire, since most run 'em on all four corners.

You might want to check Universal Tire - http://universaltire.com/ also, they support the Volksrodders, and should have that tire size readily available since it seems to be pretty popular.

I ended up replacing my 165/80's with 155/80's as they were readily available and were only .3" less on the OD than the 165's and they were the exact same tire as my 285/70's that I'm running on the rear, which are B F Goodrich. (I like my front and rear tires to match.) IMHO

P.S. my front wheels are 15"x4" and the rears are 15"x10".

I'm running 195/60-15 front, 295/50-15 rear. I like the wide tire look all around.

me too...I have 205/55-15's in the front and 275/60-17's in the rear. I like to have some decent front tire contact when I'm braking. Now I know wider tires in the front are against the traditional T-bucket code, but mine kinda breaks that mold anyway.
