Just got home and checked the 02 sensor (its still UGLY). Its 3 wire... so heated. I have checked my paperwork from Kinsler and the fax dated 1993 is about the temp sensors not needing to be fitted as it only adjusts the mixture by 1-2%. I thought it was the 02 sensor but its a long time ago and my memory is as bad as my constitutions.

Still any help you can give will be appreciated.

Gerry

On your setup I'd put it just after the lower bend up next to the body. I'd also recomend that you install it so the wire end of the sensor is pointed slightly up (10* or so) as this will keep normal exhaust system moisture from acumulating in the sensor element when cold.
What color are the three wires? it sounds like it's a narrow band 0-2? was there a small control box that went with the sensor?

Ah gotcha again.
OK it looks like we were both right and both wrong.
Earl from Kinsler mailed me this am to say I CAN use the system without the 02 sensor. I just need to turn off the closed loop on the CAlMap software and load it into the ECU. I got the software for the mapping from Kinsler with the EFI system so i can adjust the mapping while running the car. Only problem is that its so old that I need a very old laptop to run it. Its in DOS.

I will ask him if it will be better to run it and let you know the answer. a

Here is the email from Earl at Kinsler. These guys have supported me from the day I bought the system every time I have contacted them They are BRILLIANT

Hello Gerry,

The Calmap software can be operated without the exhaust gas oxygen sensor.

You must be certain that the system is designated to operate in "Open Loop"
mode. Open Loop means that you are not utilizing the exhaust gas oxygen sensor.
When in this mode, the system ignores any voltage or lack thereof on the exhaust sensor
wire leads.

You can find the software switch setting in the "Global Configuration" section of the software.

Kind regards,

Earl Miller

Gerry,

Well [shrug] Kinsler certainly knows there own equipment needs. I'll be curious to hear how it works out for you. when do you expect to have it on the road BTW. if you got the injection system 15 years ago that would certaily qualify it as a "long term project" I'd say. ha ha. looks like a really unique car. I like it!!!

The original picture of the Chevy motor arriving at the UK port in its crate is dated Feb 1992. Long term is probably the term I would use. Plan was to get the car on the road this summer but in its RAW state to see if everything works out. Run it like that thro 10 and next winter rip it down for chrome, paint etc. All depends on the funds that are around at the time
