Been working on a taller windshield for the Purple Bonnet. The original was about 6 inches tall. I found some 1 inch round alum stock, found a guy with some machinist tools, Not a Machinist, to cut a groove for the welt and glass. I got the post shaped and polished and went today to get some glass.
Originally the top and bottom edge was bare glass. I found some channel at Lowes to line the top and bottom edge. The new shield is 14 inches tall. Anyway on my list for today, I was hauling some scrap to the recyclers. I had a couple of old heads which went to the motor pile. First I saw a flathead block, no heads or intake, but everything else looked good. While questioning the Yardman about it, he said I have a Hemi in that pile also. Stay calm railroad, it's probably a DeSoto Fireball or real old model. After climbing through the mud and sludge, there she lay, upside down with the pan all mashed up. The vavle covers were down in the mud and I couldn't tell if it had an intake. Short story, the intake is broken.
The vavle covers are also smashed, but the spark plug tubes and Chrysler Power was plain on the valve covers. I made a deal and hauled out more than I took in. Reminds me of my Dad. We never let him go to the dump. He would bring back more than he took. Wife took one look at the truck and asked, you couldn't get rid of the scrap? The Hemi is nothing from the late 60s or early 70s, probably early 60s, I hope. I WILL get some pics up of the windshield parts and the engines. I probably need some help identifing the Hemi. Even if it's a 394 or other, I couldn't let it go through a crusher. I left my name and number with the Yardman. I need to get back over there and give him a $10, to help his memory.
I gotta stay our of those places or I'll never finish a project.
I ramble when I'm excited. If any of you know how to identify these engines, let me know.
thanks,
railroad
