Holley Carburetor Update

As promised, here is the next installment in my quest to get my new 355 running properly. Long story short, I sent my new Holley carb back to the techs for testing etc. The carb was received earlier this week and Holley says it would take 48 hours or less to test and get the results (either fix or replace). Well, 48 hours was Wednesday, but I waited until Thursday to follow up. Called up the tech yesterday and was told that the carb was on the flow test and it would be shipped back to me by Thursday evening (test results not back yet). The tech advised me to call back today (Friday) and get a tracking number and the test results. Called back this morning and the same status was showing up in the system...still in flow test and not shipped out. The tech told me he would personally check on the carb and give me a call with an update (yeah right). Well, low and behold, he called me back an hour or so later and said that the person doing the testing has been out for a few days and rather than have me wait any longer, he was going to send me a new carb today. That said, I must say I am impressed with Holley at this point despite having what looked to be a bad carb. At least they are trying to make it right. With my luck, they will test my old carb and find nothing wrong, but that does not matter now as I have a new one coming. Anyway, I hope to have the new one early next week and see how she runs soon after. Stay tuned...

Good customer service is getting hard to come by. Glad you had good results nice to know for future reference.

Hey Engine.....they ever get you straightened out on the carb???????????

Man.....I don't know what it is with people anymore.....a guy came into the shop the other day.......one of our best costumers........and cpmplained he couldn't get a 850doublepumer setup anywhere.......I went into the back room, grabbed about 5 big boxes, headed to the work bench.......in 5 minutes.......had one for the guy...........

I hope to have the new carb sometime in the next couple of days. Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks!

Just read on Competition Plus that Holley Performance just filed for bankruptcy AGAIN. Doesn't look good for this old company.

Well I received the new carb yesterday. Not only did Holley send a new carb, they sent the latest all aluminum version. It weighs 5 lbs less than the other carb I had. Anyway, I have not had a chance to put on yet as I have been slammed at the office. I hope to try out tomorrow evening.

This brings me to a question. What is the best way to remove the stock fuel inlet fittings? Is there a special tool? I am replacing the stock ones with some AN fittings for a braided dual feed line. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Engine......I would think they'd put flare wrench fittingson the carb..........but this day and age......they probably want to sell you a special wrench for it...........after you get it off.......OR if they are presistant on you not working on your own carb..........put a small strapwrench on it.........should remove it and not damage anything

As far as AN fittings.......after you get that off..........take it to your automotive supplier and he'll match it up.............

Thanks for the advice Screamin. I was able to get the stock fittings off, but I will keep the strapwrench in mind. I have the carb mounted up and almost ready to fire. I hope to make some noise sometime over the weekend.

The new engine (and carb) is ALIVE! After several hours, days, weeks, and months of head scratching (fuel pressure, carb, etc.) and adjustments, the 355 roared to life and ran pretty good. Still need to do some tuning etc, but this is a huge step after months of disappointments. Still have some things to finish up, but below are a couple pics for your review (sorry for the quality...blackberry).

Hey Engine...........I bet your a smilin' now!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Well the "Silver Bullet" moved last night for the first time in three months. The new engine is running and sounds good. The problem I am having now is heat With the bigger cam etc. I need to get it cooled down some. So, that is my next task.

Sweet, glad that Holley took good care of you. :)
