Hooking up, how you guys do it?

Ok guys, now that I have followed your suggestions for better street manners, the traction issue that before was limited to full throttle above 4500 rpms, now has reared its slippery head off of idle in 1st and 2nd. I just replaced my Mickey Thompson bias sportsmans with MT radials and it has helped. I don't know of any tire other than a drag slick (which here in California is not allowed on the street) that will offer better traction. My tires are only 12.5" wide. What are you guys running and does it work? I've seen a lot of wheelie bars on T's, but without traction I sure don't need one. Also my wheelbase is 102" so may not need one even if I had traction. I love the take off blast of my T, but know it would be even finer with better traction.

Gee you had no tranction problems under 4500rpms, changed to a lsd and now you have LESS traction at lower revs?

Check and see what your pinion angle is and if you can adjust your 4bars, try to tilt it upwards and then recheck your traction.

Did that on my bucket and it launched harder. But then, I never had traction issues and I had over 600hp on tap.

I have an Auburn limited slip out of a Camaro in my S10 rearend. Of course, I don't have the rear wheel horsepower that you have, either!!

Mine hooks better than I had expected, but still spins.

I also carry about 65% of the total weight on the rearend.

M/T are KNOWN to slip. Hoosiers are better alittle. If you really wanna hook get some dirttrackers but they are not DOT approved. They only have 2 ply sidewalls and DOT requires 4 ply. I run tubes in mine. They are also MUCH cheaper at around $99 a tire for a tire 18" wide and 33" tall.

I just looked at where I used to buy my Firestones and it looks like they do not sell Firestone dirttrackers anymore???? Guess I will have to go to Hoosier dirttrackers.

This is a full-throttle launch of my dual-quad 6-71 huffed hot rod. Notice there is not a whole lot of tire spin. I'm running 18.50 wide Hoosiers (and a Jag rearend, which may make a difference). As you can tell from the black smoke, I'm running a little rich! :o

I love it when Lee posts a picture I can see, thanks Lee!

I find that I have to launch at half throttle then squeeze on the gas to WOT.

Only way to keep my tires from spinning on takeoff, don't mash the go pedal all the way to the floor.

RPM,

Did you always have 20" wide on that car? If not, how much improvement did the wider tires give you? Lee, I'm also using the Jag rear end. Are they better for hooking up?

I can't say from any objective testing, by my sense is the Jag hooks up better than a straight axle. Notice in my picture there are two equal tire stripes, which is interesting because I don't have a posi in the Jag. My Jag really squats under heavy acceleration. I assume that helps with weight transfer to the rear.
