Hot Rod Refuge

I would be more than happy to look into it. But I am going to require more details than that.

Where, exactly, in the registration process are you, when you get the 404 (file not found) error? And when you get that error, what page is your browser attempting to load? In other words, when your browser lands on the 404 error, what Web address is being displayed in the address bar of your browser?

The more specific you can be in your details, the easier it will be for me to check things out. I suggest you file a trouble ticket at the Help Desk, so we can keep the communication centered on the issue you are having.

If anyone else is having problems like this one, please file a ticket on it. Once I have sorted what is happening, I will report here.

O.K. Mike. I put in my email, select new account button then Login button and then this file:///C:/Users/test/Desktop/login/login

I'm using Firefox and that's all I know. Thanks John

OK, first off, this will not cause the problem, but I don't recommend placing your e-mail address in the Name Field. That will amount to your e-mail address being displayed as a username, all over the forum.

I just went to the Hot Rod Refuge and entered old round fart in the Name field and clicked to set up a new account. That results in me ending up on hotrodrefuge.com/login/login, which is correct.

You, on the other hand, are somehow ending up on a local file, stored on your local machine. That is what the C:/ amounts to. Windows addresses its initial hard drive as c:/.

That suggests it has likely been forever and a day since you last cleared your Firefox cache history. Because these forums do not have a /Users directory, nor a /Desktop sub-directoy. Your browser is trying to load a file from your own hard drive, rather than a file on my Web server.

You don't say what version of Firefox you are running, but try the instructions in our Knowledgebase, to clear your cache history. Follow the instructions carefully (as in read the entire page) and let me know if that works. Don't skip any steps, take each one, one at a time.

I am a member of this forum and want to log into Hor Rod Refuge. It requires a login name and password. Does it have ot be a different one than the one I use for the T Bucket Forum. When I try to create one I get a message as stated below:

"An error has occurred. The Admin does not allow registrations behind proxy servers."

What's up with that?

Bill

I am afraid that I can't help you as I registered with the same name and password and got on with no problem. I suggest that you PM Mike for an answer to your problem.

When users access our registration pages, we scan for open ports that are most commonly used on proxy servers. Actually, we scan for the possibility of just three, open proxy ports. If any one of the three are open, we deny registration.

A proxy server is a server that serves as a go-between, or an intermediary server between a desktop station and the Internet. There can be instances where someone is trying to register from a workstation at their place of employment, but their IT department runs some open ports, for whatever reason. I have seen instances where AT&T customers get pinched because some of the old SBC Global servers ran some open ports.

But the most common reason for running on a proxy server is to conceal one's identity. Since every computer leaves tracks, showing everywhere we go on the Web, some individuals will mask their IP address by running through a proxy.

If you are your place of employment, there really isn't much you can do about changing things, unless your IT people do not realize they are running some questionable open ports. (They may have ports open to stop employees from accessing certain sites on company time, which I can understand.)

If you are experiencing problems with an Internet Service Provider at your home, I would suggest you contact your provider and ask them how they intend to work around the problem they are creating for you. If your provider would like to know the ports we are checking, send me a Personal Conversation and I will get them to you.

We've been running this tool on this particular site since mid-August of last year and on the Hot Rod Refuge site since Day One.
