To be honest, I really don't feel badly about it. It was pretty obvious, a couple months after the site initially opened that it was a non-starter. A tiny core group of members assured me it was not, but the handwriting was on the wall. I've already set up a couple of Linux-related sites on that server and each of them is earning considerably more advertising revenue than HRR ever did. It was a waste of my resources and server resources, trying to keep it alive, so shutting it down certainly did not make me feel badly.
What makes me feel badly is when donations on this joint come up in the red, leaving me holding the bag on the deficit. It's either seeing if the host will reduce our server bill by $70, this month (like that would ever happen), or I get to dig into my own pocket for an extra $70. Care to place any bets on that outcome? Spending an unexpected, seven sawbucks really puts a tremendous smile on my face, filling me with a sense of joy and delight.
OK, so that last bit was a lie.
