I'm going to buy my steel Sat. and I am going to use 2x3 tubing for the frame but what thickness do I need to buy? If anyone could help me with the basic list of steel that I might need I sure would be thankful
I havent built one myself but most are 11ga steel for the frame and if you are fabing a body I would use 19 ga. I am planning to build soon and that is what I plan on using. Good luck on your project. ..Francis
We always use 3/16 for several reasons. It is so much stronger, the thicker walls allow you to drill and tap threads for non structural items, and the profile is prettier than 1/8 thickness...........more of a rounded edge to the corners.
For the slight upcost over 1/8 inch it just makes good sense IMO.
I have always used 1 1/2 X 3 3/16 wall tubing. I like the smallwer look of the tubing as well as what has been mentioned before you can tap the tubing for brake lines and such with 3/16. like everyone else this is my opinion.
