I would like to put an overdrive trans in my T but I'm not sure whitch one,I am starting with a stock SBC 350 but in the future I am building a nice hot roller motor. What do u all think?
If I were to put one in, it's probably the be 200R as I think it is the same length as the turbo 350 and can be built up super strong. Less complicated than the 700r4's. If you want to build one up, Art Carr is the guy to go to:
I'm going to pull my 350 and replace it with a full manual, reverse pattern 700 R4. I would not be opposed to a 200 4R, but I don't know of anyone who makes a full manual version.
i'm using a 700r4 with a 2800 rpm stall.. lockup is omitted so i dont have to mess with any wiring or switches.. the 700r4 is a tad longer than the th350, atleast the mount is farther back in the chassis... overall length i'm not sure about, theres a blueprint of the dimensions on this site i think..
seems like the 700r4 would be easier to find, if you decide on the 700r4 look into the 90's model years... mines a 92 model, thier suppose to have a little heavier internal parts in them. if you can get lucky, get one out of a camaro or corvette...
Just a stock 400 turbo with a manual valve body works GREAT, strong and cheap, if you think you need an overdrive, go to a taller rear gear or taller tires... Very hard to beat...
