This may sound like a stupid question, but I want a chrome radiator cap and they come in either a 7 lb or a 15 lb system. I do not know what that means. I have a Walker radiator on a csb 350 engine. Any ideas?
All modern cooling systems are pressurized. The rating refers to how many pounds per square inch the cap will hold, so a 15 lb cap maintains a higher pressure in the cooling system than the 7 lb cap. This will allow a higher temperature without boiling. But it also puts more stress on your hoses and connections.
