shock issue

I have "houdaille shocks" off of a model A on the front of my bucket. I would like them to be a little stiffer. The work good on the highway and around town but on a road a little rough they could stand a little more. I was thinking maybe heavier oil might do the trick. I have "model A shock fluid" in them now. Does anybody know what the viscosity of that would be. I was told that it's mineral oil but I don't know.
Thanks

I have the same on the front of my car. Mine came off of a 47 Ford PU.....These are Adjustable, if yours has a square nut on the side of the body, you can turn that one way or the other and it changes the shock action.
I haven't done that to mine yet, but that info comes from a person that has many years working on old fords for a living....
These shocks are also rebuildable. These was an article in a hot rod magazine last year or two and showed the rebuilding proceedure, looked pretty simple if you have the wrench to take the body of the shock appart.
Rebuilders can be found on line in google..
Good luck ! "BH"

Edit: I found a diagram on Google from The HAMB....... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2902026

I just read the link ..interesting thanks. I rebuilt mine before I put them on The kits with the "correct fluid" are available from Mac's. I have them set with the valves fully closed and they do work well most of the time but I was hoping to get them a little stiffer. After reading the link I guess I better leave well enough alone and not play with the fluid.
Thanks
