On the local TV news many years back they did a filler story about a retired man who took his tractor and built a fully functioning 1/3 scale version of it. There was only a handful of bolts he had to use full size, but almost everything on it was exactly 1/3 the size of the origional. Now that is dedication to a hobby. It's one thing to build a mini tractor with a Briggs and Stratton engine. It's quite another to build a fully functioning 1/3 size engine and transaxle.

I would rather put my time into something you can really use.

There is a farmer up here who had a 1/2 scale tractor at a show. He had it parked next to his big tractor so that we could make comparisons. The detail was exceptional. The replica was powered by Onan diesel engine. And since it was totally functional it was usable.

What about the guy who spent 20,000 hours building a fully functional exact 1/3 scale Ferrari... even the engine ran! I tried to find a link to the video of it running, but our corporate web filter is blocking me. I'll try to find it at home this weekend... it is very impressive.
