Spark plugs

I am using an AR51 spark plug in my engine and they are fouling after about 25-30- miles. A lot of carbon build up and then the engine starts to run like crap. I was looking on line and found that the AR52 is the same heat range but it says they disapate the heat faster. I was just wondering if I should use the AR52 or go to the next heat range and lean out the carbs a little to see if it will run better. I realize with two Edelbrock 650 carbs it will not be easy to make it run top notch, but I need it to be a driver that will go farther than 30 miles on a set of plugs. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I used to have 3 sets of plugs I would use and switch about once a month and sandblast the set I just took out and put back in the pile. The blower and mucho gas used to foul plugs alot.

Then I went to Boush Platinum Plus 4 plugs and the fouling has stopped. I go over a year now before I clean them. They don't need to be cleaned then but I do it anyway. Kind of a spring tuneup. The Plat+4 are double the price of a regular plug but WELL worth it.

Yep....those Plat.tipped plugs are worth every penny on those engines.....alot of folks don't give two thoughts to the plugs.....they do a really hard job..............
Let us know if you still foul plugs, cause if you do, there's something wrong.......

I'm using those new E3 plugs in my blower motor and they made a big difference.

Well you are correct, those new E-3 plugs are great. I also quit fooling around with my old carbs. I bought two new Edelbrock 500 cfm carbs and with the new plugs it runs like a stripped a???? ape. Thanks for the info.

Grant, what heat range are you using? Better yet, do you have a part number? I'd like to give those a try.

Hey Lee, I don't recall off top of my head but will check when I get home. I have Polished Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads and I think I just cross referenced with their recommendation. I'll post the numbers later today.

I have a blown small block. I used to foul plugs quite often. I went to a Unilite Dist. with a good electronic coil with AC Plugs and Dejeted the 2, 600 Holly Carbs by .005 main Jets. I never foul plugs anymore. In fact I just changed plugs after 6 years of cruising every weekend because I felt guilty.
Aloha, Jack

Jack, You are as bad as me, my first T with the small block, I never touched the engine, except to check the oil, for over 5 years, when I sold Her, I figured I better do something to Her, oil, filter, points and plugs, but She was running like a top..
