Steering column idea

I'm using a straight six and Ford o Matic 2 speed from a 64 falcon as motovation for my bucket (I use that term lightly as this a 170ci). I was reading an article on the LimeWorks column shift kit and wondered if I were to acquire the steering column from a Falcon, Mustang etc. that will work with that tranny, shouldn't I be able to adapt a column shift set up?

I have seen it done using a 'vair box and a bell crank. I don't know what column he used though.
