Steering Columns- To cut or not ?

I been looking at all the different types of steering columns for awhlie. There are lots of choices available for example:steel, chromed steel, aluminum, polished aluminum, stainless, polished stainless, tilt, non tilt, floor shift, and column shift. OH YEAH lets not forget about the high prices!!!!!! We'll I found one that is an all New Chromed Steel Floor Shift Tilt Steering Column. Made from all new parts, it measures 32 inches and comes complete with all levers and 9 bolt steering wheel adapter for $ 280:cool:. This is the best "bang for the bucks" that I have found. The problem is I have a K&S Customs stretched body which is a super thick fiberglass knock off of CCR's long body. CCR's uses a 28" column. Can you shorten a nice looking column without screwing it up or should I pay the higher cost to get the correct lenght that I need?

Wise man say always buy the right part first if possible, also if your not feeling confident in your skills to cut down a steering column buy one. If you dont go all fancy and stick to basic hotrod just build one. I built mine when I was building my roller Ive got maybe $20 and some time into it. I used the heavy duty clamp on turn signal switch which is not everyone cup o tea...good luck whichever way you go....

On John Jr's T we used a 59 Ford PU box, a grant wheel, 2 pillow block bearings some pvc and some bondo!
