The Bench Seat, this time...

Alright, we have discussed the seat belts, but now I need a few ideas about mounting this cut down middle bench seat out of a Dodge Caravan.
I want it sitting as low as possible, so it will be sitting directly onto the floor. The only thing I;ve come up with is a couple of metal straps bolted to the frame of the seat, and then bolt the straps through the floor. It will only be bolted in the front. No way to bolt anything down at the rear of the seat frame.
What ideas do you all have??
Thanks,
Johnny

Well, I did have a set of bomber seats in mine, but one of my guys walked past my car about 3 months ago, he stopped and looked, told me the seats out of a early TR7 should fit. I found a set, ripped all the upholstery off them, built a flatbar frame that went across the body at both the front and rear of the seat frames.
To put the seats in after upholstered, theres 2 vertical brackets on each seat at the front, thats retained by 2 bolts screwed thru the front brackets. The nuts are welded to the back of seat frame fastened thru the floor into the T's frame. The rear of the seat frame has 2 pieces of 1" square tubing tig'ed to the seat frame, that slides into 2 pieces of 1 1/4" sq. tubing thats welded to the lower seat frame.

The seat just slides into 2 square tubes at the rear front is fastened down by (2) grade 8 allen head cap screws in a double shear configuration. On a bench seat, fastened down like that, in a single shear configuration, with grade 8's should be fine....

A pic of the underside of the seat, and the floor of your car may help spur ideas.

I used these type seat brackets used in the Porsche track cars, modified by welding 2 pieces of square tubing on the rear, for the seats 2 to fit inside, then just a simple short vertical piece that bolts to the seat in the front.
Nothing fancy....

Looks comfy.

I like seeing that caramel color with the black exterior. Red is so overused these days. As for installation: any pics of the mounting setup? How much did you have to cut out of the seat, and where did you cut? How is the back angle?

It is the middle seat out of a Dodge Caravan. 4" cut out of the middle of the seat. It is a fixed seat with no adjustment so the back angle is whatever Dodge put into it. Feels pretty comfortable. Yeah, I like that color too.

You can treat your bench seat as 2 lids to 2 storage compartments. My seat back hangs and removes to form a stereo equipment bay and the seat fits like a boat seat over a storage area. Both are lockable.
