I think you can break street rodders into two, basic groups. And these are not one size fits all groups, I know there are exceptions. One group is the younger crowd, struggling to raise a young family, but with a need for automotive expression. The other group is the retired empty-nest group, where Dad is just trying to convince Mom he really isn't going through a mid-life crisis. In either instance, budgetary restraints prevent people from getting what they really want, and settling for what they can scarcely afford.
Personally, I like the looks of the touring tubs, probably just because they are different. I've always had a soft spot in my heart (or is that in my head) for people who can happily march to the beat of a different drum.
