St. Petersburg, Florida Rolling Car Show / Cruise. Saturday, May 9th

We had a great time on our 80 mile cruise this morning. Plenty of waves and smiles along the way. Personally, I enjoy this type of thing over hanging out at a car show. Cheers, Steve

    Seat Foam

I ordered my seat foam from thefoamfactory.com I used 3” thick (firm) on the bottom and 2” thick (medium) on the back. I got the vinyl on sale from JoAnn Fabrics. The total materials cost was about $85. I glued the foam to the plywood, then wrapped the vinyl around it and stapled it from the...

    Seat Foam

Yep, I did that. I got my webbing from a truck tie down I grabbed off the side of a freeway. I just got my foam from thefoamfactory.com. I got my vinyl on sale from JoAnn Fabrics. I’ll post up some pictures when I get done with my homemade seats and side panels.

    Seat Foam

I’m getting ready to order some foam to upholster my seats. I’m thinking about getting 3” thick firm or medium/firm for the seat bottom, and 2” medium foam for the seat back. Does that sound about right to you guys?

    Getting started

Do you plan on building a car? Or just building a frame and selling it? Flyer gave you some solid, accurate advice. If you build the frame first and then get a body, you may end up having to modify the body to make it fit the frame. I am interested in your project, and I love your enthusiasm. I...

    The excitement is building

Most of us have some “slumps” and down time while building these cars. It takes a lot of time....... Just keep plugging away. You’ll get there!

    Steering Column through the floor.

Old Round Fart, I am using a drag link with a couple of bends in it to get underneath the frame rail. Your bell crank idea sounds pretty good though. Do you have any pictures of it? Steve

That is some beautiful work Gerry. You are making my stuff look like child’s play, lol! :D

    Steering Column through the floor.

By the way, Sweet Manufacturing is actually in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The owner and founder of the company, Randy Sweet, passed away a couple weeks ago. But the company plans to continue conducting business as usual.

    Steering Column through the floor.

I just think it looks cool that way. I agree climbing in and out is a bit awkward, especially if you have a top on the car, which I don’t plan on doing. I think the foot and leg room seems good while you are sitting in it though. To each their own. If we all built identical T-Buckets it would...

    Steering Column through the floor.

I am currently building a bucket with a straight up column. I used a rack and pinion from a dirt late model stock car. It was built by Sweet Manufacturing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I got mine from Ebay, but they are available new for about $800. I built my own steering column from a piece of...

    More of a reintroduction

Welcome! Michigan to St. Petersburg, FL here! I have a bucket under construction. I hope to test drive it by the end of this year.

Cheap and pretty easy neutral safety switch.

In my T-Bucket I really couldn’t find the space to mount a neutral safety switch near the transmission. So I mounted it behind the seat instead, and ran a cable to it. I used a 1960’s Chevy pickup switch, $16 from Amazon. I also used a Schwinn bicycle brake cable from Walmart. The beauty of...

    The dreaded "death wobble"...

Just a word of warning about adjusting steering gear boxes. Make small adjustments (an 1/8th of a turn makes a difference). Be careful not to ever tighten it. An over tight gear box drives worse than a loose one. If you get it too tight the car will really “wander” when going down the road. If...
