    Just another '23 build thread.

That may be true for most newbs, but if you look at that build I posted a link to, and the pics that go with it, you might see that this is no big deal for me. If no one wants to see anything than another cookie-cutter, me-too, monkey-see-monkey-do build, then I'll just forget about posting the...

As for springing it, I already didn't like how the shocks stand, but I like coilover having higher wheel rates with lower spring rates, so this seems a good candidate for pushrods coilovers, to keep things low, inboard, horizontal, and less visible.

I may have figured out my track width woes. The only 2 things stopping me from cutting the IFS assembly in half then welding in a widening spacer are the transverse leaf spring(s?) and the steering rack. So I started looking into steering rack widths. First I found that the '97-up Corvette rack...

    Electric fan

Most put it in the intake manifold. On a related note, does your t-stat have a steam hole?

Just discovered that the pics in my old build thread stopped working since yesterday. After many tries I got logged in, but can't figure out how to update so you can see the pics. If you want to search in Photobucket, the pics are all under: thecosmick I guess I have to email them

    Just another '23 build thread.

So I'm sitting around thinking about induction for my 454, thinking the sky is the limit, until I remember that my 63" wife won't be as tolerant of a car she can't drive. So I spent a couple hours researching intake manifolds, EFI manifolds, carbs, TBs, TB elbows, shallower oil pans, even...

    Just another '23 build thread.

You guys are pretty cool, thanks! So, I Googled interiors last night, made a list of things I like, things I don't like. Then had my better half take a look at my 3 favorites. I don't really like the slanted steering columns that look like refurbished and chrome ones pulled from a '73-'87 C-10...

Replacing brake shoes & parts on a Chevy S10 rearend

Easy there, it's not like I thread-jacked your personal build thread. If you just want a loud cruiser that never goes over 35 MPH, then drums are fine. Like front tires that are about 2.75" wide. But if you're going to enjoy the lightness and power of the car by racing down a canyon early on a...

    Length questions, please help?

So I emailed a bunch of suppliers, I'm now leaning toward Unlimited's tub, their length is 46.75", then for a SWP 454 add 30.5, add 2.5 for the radiator thickness, plus a fan, plus some air gaps, and set the engine forward enough to clear a large cap HEI, which will help with driveshaft length...

    Just another '23 build thread.

I have a '95 Ranger, so I don't really need a pickup box, so I'm looking into turtle decks.

    Length questions, please help?

Maybe I should vvait until I get the body tub, undecided on Haler vs Speedvvay, but I'm not finding anything anyvvhere about hovv much of the frame length goes behind the tub. It seems to me that I can be building the frame right avvay vvhile I save up for the body tub. If only I knevv a fevv...

    S10 Rear ends---Info by Ben

There are 4000# LS1 fourth-gen Camaros running high 9s on stock 7.625s, there are 170-horse 305s breaking built 7.625s, they're inconsistent in their failures. But they're not vveak for vvhat they are. There are Bonneville LSR cars pushing 1500 horses through them, but they are traction-limited...

Spreadsheet For Tracking Your Machine Shop Costs

Having been UAVV-trained and years of experience as an automotive engine machinist, the best advice I can offer is to stay out of the machine shop. The best engines don't need it anyvvay. Especially the LS V8s, but this pretty vvell applies to all the factory-EFI engines. Forget strokers, turbos...

    GM engine and tranny combos

They all go, that's one advantage of Chevy. Ford is a nightmare in comparison.

    Ford Motor and Trans questions

I must disagree. First, EFI is no cure for MPG because all of it runs on 14.7:1 air:fuel for emissions, carb can go leaner, like 17:1. Second, as great as 390s are for easy maintenance, they're excessively heavy, like the Explorer version of the 8.8, and the cheapest aluminum 4-barrel intake...

Dynamic & Static Compression Ratio Calculator

SCR and DCR are good tools, to help you predict your cranking compression, or CrCo for short, but in the end, CrCo is the best tool of all. On pump gas, 180-200 is the ideal. Anything under 140 needs help. Anything over 215 needs better than 93 octane. Air density drops by roughly 5% per 1500'...

Replacing brake shoes & parts on a Chevy S10 rearend

I'm planning to use an S-10 axle, but definitely not keeping the drums. The last one I did, I svvapped the rear discs from an '84 Trans Am, that vvas a direct bolt-on. Then I found larger-diameter rotors and modified the caliper mounting plates, cut and vvelded to move the calipers out. My next...

How old are the current hot rodders

I'm 41, but I'd've started this at 26 if I had realized hovv affordable it can be. That right there is your main selling point if you hope to get teens and 20-somethings into this. cravvling into a big SUV for a quick trip to get a gallon of milk can be enough to make guys decide the milk can...

    Change of Plans

I vvas really liking the pics, the idea of a cheap open 4-seater, but the prices vvere insane. Someone needs to buy him out then cut the prices by half.
