Back of block , drivers side flange , casting number ,&DATE , combineccwith stamped engine code gives you a chance of decoding ......
Mark , what's up with those water pump gaskets ??

Water pump gasket has been like that since I bought the car. No leaks, no problem! Here is the cast in numbers:

"397001"
So what are the numbers near the water pump?

3/4 cam.... Yea, I know what you mean. As for timing. Too many variables in a modified engine to set to specs. Set it where it runs best with your set up, in your environment, on the fuel you run. I initially set them as advanced as possible at operating temp without detonation or ping and will still start then take note. Adjust from there to dial it in. You might have to look at the distributor curve, etc to achieve optimum results. Like with Holley carbs, when you are close, weather changes will require adjustment to maintain peak performance, lol... never done tuning performance engines it seems.
