Getting Started on Body Prep

I always use enamel reducer first to wash bodies before any sanding, then a very hard scrubbing, using something like Tide or other good soap... as far as a new gel coat body sanding, I start with about a #60 open coat paper dry, as it (primer) needs something good to hang on to, but who knows? maybe now days things are done differently, but I did this for years and it works good for me, as that is how my body maker told me to do it... Good luck and take your time... have fun no matter:) Gas has oil in it...

I really dont think I would use ANY unleaded gas to wash anything down..too much carcinogenic crap in our fuels.I wax my molds after every three articles, every time I prep them,a couple of coats of mold release gets sprayed into them..therefore,when I demold something.it gets washed with a hose, just straight water, when it dries out,a good sand by hand,or DA sander, with 60/80grit,dry,and use a good quality, epoxy based primer.I also have been doing this for near 30 years, had no probs so far..
