Need tire help

I have found a set of steel rear wheels that I want for the T from Wheel Vintiques. Now I just have to find tires. I want something pretty wide. The wheels I like come in 10", 12" and 14" widths and are 15" diameter. I would like to keep the cost down as much as possible and I'm not going after a specific tread look. I know this hobby costs money, but I just don't want to spend $270 per tire.

I'd even do used tires as I don't see the car getting driven that much or that far. Any recommendations?

I guess I should add that I'm really just trying to make the rears look a lot wider than the front. The front are 165 width on a 14" wheel.

Will a 15x10 or 15x12 wheel with P295/50R15 tires look considerably wider than the fronts?

BF Goodrich makes a nice 275/60R15 for a 8" wheel that will be taller than the 295/50 and wider than your fronts. They also make the g-Force Drag Radial in size 325/50/15 that is 13" wide on a 10" wheel.

If you go to the 12" wheel , then the Hoosier Pro Street 29x15.50R-15LT is the way to go.

To convert that metric number to inches multiply it by 0.03937. For example: a 275/60 x 15 tire would convert to 275 x 0.03937 = 10.82675" which is the cross section dimension of the tire at it's widest point. You can then take the aspect ratio which is a percentage of width to height, which in this case is 60 or 60% and multiply it by the cross section measurement and you get the dimension from road to rim. In this case it it: 10.82675 x .60 = 6.49605". By doubling that and adding the rim size you will get the overall dimension or height of the tire. In this case 6.49605 x 2 = 12.9921 + 15 = 27.9921" or 28" tall.

By using these simple calculations you can figure the true size of any tire.

Well, it looks like I found a pair of alminum mags with good N50-15 tires for very cheap. Makes me very happy.

I'm running Hoosiers now. The 31x16.50r-15s on 10" rims. :lol:
