VW steering column

Has anyone used a VW column from the beetle ? Say 60 or 70's

I know people have used the steering box out of a bus before so im sure someone has.

They work fine but in order to get the signal lights to work you must use a 3 wire to 2 wire trailer converter, nearly plucked my head bald trying to figure why I couldnt get the tail lights and signal lights to work.

Let me step back a little. I built a '27 roadster/VW kit car (mid engine)with a VW column and used a VW wireing harness, but tried to use '40 Ford tail lites and it took the trailer converter to switch from forgein wiring to conventional wiring.If you were to run conventional wireing and just the turn switch off the column there should not be a problem. I did that build in '87 and its hard to remember if I even had breakfest this morning.
