Just picked up a set VW bug wheels (spindles and all).

They have the really big center rim hole.

Any idea what year year came off of?

can't pin point exact year but 67 or older

Every picture I look at has different rims.

JCwhitney lists alot of stuff.

Trying to get the assembly apart but the brakes are locked to the drum.

After I get it apart I can a make an adapter plate to fit my dodge axle/spindles.

Thanks,
Jon

65 or earlier. the 66 and 67 had the same lug pattern, but had slotted wheels.

I'm not an expert but I have owned one of almost every year VW ever manufactured.

That's a VW Wide Five pattern and generally speaking they were used up to 67 on Type 1 (15"). There were 14" wide five rims on the early Bus.

Never owned a Thing but they kept the wide five alive and never used the four lug version that was on the 68 and later Bugs.

Right now I've got a 69 that I converted to wide five by replacing the front drums with 67 and the rear drums with thing drums.

Dang Al where ya been? I was about to put out a "where's AL?" message.

The Bug's actually a big fat p.o.s. with no floor, rusted heater channels, spray painted red... and the prev owner painted EVERYTHING including the engine.

BUT it has dropped spindles, a narrowed beam, and hundred dollar a pop rims with new tires all around (135 on the front and some 205s on the rear). the conversion to pre-67 fenders and wide 5 drums has been done so theoretically I have a special car.

Plans were to pull the body and replace the pans and heater channels, blast the body and let it funk-ify itself into something "hoodride-ish" like this.

You can GIS "hoodride" and see lots of old Krusty Krautwagons.

"The Bug's actually a big fat p.o.s. with no floor, rusted heater channels..."

That is the story of every bug. Previously owned a 72 and 74, both were P.O.S. Then I made the huge mistake of finishing a trike with a bug transaxle and engine. Never again! All they was, was constant fixing, adjusting the brakes, adjusting the valves, and changing out leaky seals.

No thanks, I'll stick with technology beyond the year 1945.

Here is my son's '64 vert.
