After I mount my 27tbucket on the frame I will have to cut in the deck lid and at least one door (as per wifes instructions) so here is the question do I cut inside or outside the trim lines around the panels?
On my '23 to '25 style turtle deck I cut inside the revel lines and made a flush fitting deck lid. The factory made their deck lid fit on top of the body overlapping the revel lines.
On the doors, the factory kept the lines on the doors not the body.
Here is a shot of my deck lid with the home made hinges and seal.
EX Junk, beautiful work. I have a 27 body with doors, but no truck. After seeing yours, I will have a trunk. Enlighten me on what tool and method you used to make the cuts.
I have an air saw, sazall, air and electric grinder, but your work looks like it was laser cut.
I taped the opening that I wanted and then proceeded freehand with a small die grinder. The die grinder had a Norton 4 X .035 X 3/8" disc. The part number is A60-OBNA2.
However, I don't see any reason why you could not use a steady hand and your air saw.
For the inner lip that holds the weather stripping, I used 3/4" x 3/4" x 1/16" aluminum angle. I pop riveted two pieces together forming a "Z" and bonded them to the underside of the body. I also made tabs that mount to the angle that hold small rubber bumpers that have a screw mount. This was done to allow the lid to to be adjusted much the same as in your everyday car.
The locking mechanism is a simple cabinet type lock that is available at Lowes, Home Depot or hardware store. I made the latch out of a small piece of 1/8" aluminum.
