Door hinges

Has anyone used standard model t style hinges on their bucket? The one piece style. If so, how did they workout? I have searched hi and lo and don't like any of the options so far. I ordered the universal model a type, but they are really not suitable. I found new replacement reproductions from Macs and am considering giving them a try. I just hate to keep blindly ordering parts...

We use the standard 23 T hinge on our bodies, they fit perfect.
Thanks Ron! I sort of answered my question by reading the past posts on this site. I forgot how much info is actually on here. Anyone have a source for them besides eBay? Best I can find new is about 60 bucks each...I am suprized that they aren't more readily advertised for buckets...

If you can-buy the 1925 hinge. The top and bottom stick out the same distance. Looks better
School me, if they stick out the same, does the door open right? I thought the whole point for the long bottom hinge was to counter the slant of the body.

Not applicable I know. I just think this is so bad ass.

Here's what I'm trying to do with my doors.

The sides of these buckets have that wicked undercutting angle. Hence the original T hinges sticking way out to keep plumb.

I'm planning a long mono hinge design where the front edge of the doors tuck inward like modern cars do.

On my original T style door on the passenger side I'm going to be using one of the ebay sourced original T hinge. BTW, saw one on ebay a few days ago for around $25.

For my larger cut out door on the driver side I plan on using Speedway generic trunk hinges...if I can figure a way to tie them together to prevent sag. If I can't make those work, I'll probably go for the T hinge on that side to.

My dream door would operate like the Koenigsegg hyper and mega cars. They do not raise up like the BMW above, and they do not swing out like conventional doors. When the doors are unlatched, they slide out until the door clears the side of the car. Once clear the door rotates around a pivot point near the lower front corner of the door. The whole motion opperates with no more than finger tip pressure, and the door does not become a sail up in the air.

You guys got me thinking now, lol... I have a pair of Lamborghini hinges I thought about putting on my '67 firebird convertible, but haven't gotten to that project yet... The thing is, these small, light doors shouldn't merit so much trouble, lol...the big issue is space, the more extravagant, the more required space, and I have very little to spare, especially on the drivers side. Does anyone have an approximate dimension on the standard '23 hinges? I am looking for the width of the strap that mounts to the jamb, door edge... I want to move forwards with the oak and glass, but want to be sure the hinges will mount to my creation... If you have any question as to how strong that stranded bondo (kitty hair) is, let it cure on your mixing board and spreader and try to clean it off, lol...

@Zandoz, check this out.

Cool, but that door sill raises as it rotates up. The raising requires more power...mechanical or human...and subjects the hinge and it's support to more stress in situations like a windy day. Also, they tend to leave a substantial duck-under obstruction. Unfortunately like so many of the Koenigsegg innovations, they are internationally patented and not likely to appear on anything other than their ultra expensive and ultra low production cars. Generally their cars make the Bugatti Veyron look mass production. There will only be 6 of their mega-car One:1s built, with a price tag of between 2 and 3 million.

Here are some pics to help. Sorry I did take the time to rotate all the pics so the tape measure could easily be read but Photobucket is not cooperating with the direct link.

Ok, finally got back to the shop after a couple weeks of interruption.... I ended up making my own version of hinges, I call them the stanly ford hinges, lol... Hybrid Stanly "open away" door hinges and Henry's design. I was going to try to get some actual model T hinges, but they are either over priced or on auction. I hate auctions because I never remember or get tied up and miss it. Thanks again to Kcline40 for the dimensions! Now maybe I will get busy and cut the doors finish the glass work. I have an idea to make custom hinge pins to match the knobs in the interior.
