drop radiator mounting

Does any one have any photos of a dropped radiator mounting? I am using a 32 grill shell and without dropping the mounting 3 1/2 inches the radiator tabs are too low to use the mounts straight across on the frame. I am thinking about lowering the mounting tabs on the frame aprox. 2 1/2 to 3 inches below the frame and run a piece of 1/4 x 3 flat bar across them to allow the allow the body cowl to line up with the top of the grill shell. I have access to a little plate slightly smaller than 3/16 to make the new brackets with. do you think it is thick enough or should I use 3/16?

I had the same problem a while back. Couldn't find anything that wouldn't interfere with my cross steering. So I had to make flat bottomed one out of the chopped shell I had. Made the plug or (tool). Molded that. And made the final shell to fit a squatty radiator.

I used 1/4" on mine, and also added a rubber strip (1/4 x 2) between the plate and the radiator. I felt safer with the 1/4. The rubber is fairly soft, that came from a floor scubber that Walmart uses. I bet they would give you a take-off.

Jeff, are you talking about something like this? So the top is more level with the firewall height?

I guess as long as you have enough ride height. But I'd sure go with 1/4" mounts if they're the only things supporting it all.

That car/radiator wouldn't last a mile on the roads here in N.C.

Scrub line? We don't need no stinking scrub line!

As low as that is, I think the hole in the roof also serves as the entry /exit point.

I guess that's one way to fit the shell. Just bolt it on and drive it until it doesn't make any more noise!:D I hope there are some air bags on that thing that aren't seen in the pic.

This thing is actually pretty high tech. The air ride is self leveling.

yea choppin!!! you got it, something like that but with a few inches under the shell for clearance as glass gets expensive and doesn't make cool sparks on the pavement. No that's about what i have in mind. My radiator has 1 x 3 inch tabs at the bottom of the lower tank been nice if they were up about tree inches but can't have it all unless you build it. No I have in mind to run angled brackets down from the inside top of the frame and make them tuck under the frame 1 1/2 inch and angle back toward the mounting point plated off in between with a 3 1/2 inch piece of stock for the side brackets. Once the bottom of the one in the pic is ground down it can be made perfectly level with the firewall. Which is what I am shooting for, Right now it sits about 25 inches and the firewall around 22 inches.
